Plagiarism

I stay awake till 3 in the morning almost daily, there are lots of activities which keeps me engaged through the night. I would either be reading blogs or books, sketching, listening to music precisely I will be up to something or the other after 10. I’m active then and my thought process is kind of focused only after midnight. My parents have tried all the means to amend it but in vain. I will remain nocturnal for all I know it makes me happy. I hate giving my mind the needed rest because it’s alacrity is just perfect at dusk.

When my state of mind is so clear, I tend to be very meddlesome and I go about investigating so many issues and sometimes even end up checking the credibility of each and every post of all my friend’s blog. When I was at this task one day, I caught a friend of mine red handed who used to ccp stuff from wikipedia. I was flabbergasted; I was an ardent reader of this friend’s blog. I was taken aback, not that it is bad to copy stuff like this but they should have the sense to mention the source. My friend has posted the article in such a way that people will end up believing each and every sentence of the blog is original while it is just not.

I appreciate this persons researching and all but the enthusiasm just vanishes in reading an article when you find out at a later point it is plagiarized. This person is not some big level celebrity but even then some amount of wariness is necessary. Copy as much as you want but be loyal to the source and give them some credit yaar. I have stopped commenting on this blog and just read it for the information part of it. I on behalf of this person thank wiki and other sources for giving me the gyaan.

On the lighter side, I agree, sometimes your mind is blocked and you resort to other sources for help especially with such technological advances, information is guaranteed. I can get intrigued by the slightest of things and some times I feel my chosen profession is wrong. A career in investigating is more appropriate I reckon. :D

Eerie place

It showered in Chennai today, a good sign after a long time. The barren earth at last quenched its thirst and took a refreshing shower. The musky smell from the wet ground definitely brought upon a smile like crack on it. I and amma planned to visit T.nagar in the evening and the rain gave us thumbs down. I consider visiting T.Nagar and walking through the crowded street a herculean task in itself. I resent going there most of the times with fear of being jostled by some unknown strangers. What surprises me is the fact that, on any given day, this part of Chennai always has people wandering about; nothing ever actuates the crowd here!!

The rain came to a halt and we made it to Pondy bazaar and did hazaar shopping. Even the rain doesn’t stop the people. The reason most likely must be people from all township come to this bazaar to shop for any festivals and marriages. Even though there is a good number of the likes of Pothy’s, Nalli and Kumaran silks opening all over Tamil Nadu, they prefer to show their loyalty to T.Nagar for its constant supplies of clothing, jewellery and other saamans from god knows when.

For that matter, even my mom solemnly preaches the place and won’t complain about the rabble. I don’t enjoy it much, but I pay my silent homage to the place for always welcoming me with its open hand for diwali shopping and for any other festivities. This place is heaven which is contaminated in the eyes of states men but turns out to be absolutely exciting for an outlander.

That apart, I did a good amount of shopping for painting and few other necessary items which cannot be mentioned here (I can reveal one thing, it will look like I’m fretting- I have grown too fat and I don’t like it)! :-|

Delightful Coorg! :)

It was 9:15 PM when I reached the station on a Friday night. I traversed through platform No. 3 to reach the S3 coach. I was excited about the forthcoming fun at Coorg, and as I stepped into the coach I got further excited. Our leaders were Kalyani “Aunty” and Ashok “Uncle”. Though all of us travelled on the same train we were all given different compartments. This seemed funny to us as there were not that many travellers on the train and therefore I did not understand the point behind this seating arrangement. Our extremely talented Krupa charmed the “TT” (ticket examiner) into giving us all seats in the same compartment. Three cheers to Krupa. :D

Then we started talking to each other and pretty soon we were chatting away to glory. This went on, until our Deepak (a.k.a. “Enna ma!” due to his repetitive usage of this phrase) felt we needed to catch some sleep. We turned the lights out and went asleep. At around four in the morning the train halted at Bangalore where Krupa’s friends Kavita and Edwin joined us. I was unable to sleep and was able to over-hear the conversations happening amongst all of them. Kalyani Aunty and Krupa spoke to them for a bit and went back to sleep. Before they were off to sleep I decided to say hello to Kavita and Edwin and get familiar with my new companions for the next 2 days. Ashok Uncle woke up just then to join us and we were in deep discussions from then on till we reached Mysore. The others also joined in the chit-chat in-between.

The day started with the First Lady of Wildertrails (Kalyani Aunty) dropping a coin into the Cauvery river before reaching Mysore (it is supposed to bring luck  ). At Mysore we met Bhavani, Pratik and Vivek (who came in the same train but in AC coach . . . . Soguzu :P ). A cab was waiting for us outside the Mysore station. Then our journey to Coorg began. By then, we were hungry and we had our breakfast in a local restaurant. I loved the sambhar and milk. This earned me the nickname “milk girl”. Then the 4-hour long journey to Chilligiri estate began. We spotted elephants and a few deer in the beginning and then later halted at an elephant camp. Here mahouts have tamed some of the elephants which are later used for commercial purposes. I captured a few photos of the wild elephants which were yet to be trained. A word of caution, beware of wild elephants, they are not as docile as they appear.

After a journey lasting a few hours in a rickety-old-van we reached the Nagarhole wildlife sanctuary. We thought of booking tickets in advance for the safari to be assured of a trip into the forest later that evening. But the forest officer refused to give the tickets early and asked us to come there at five sharp in order to catch a glimpse of the wild animals. While our crew leaders enquired about the tickets, we began our photo session. We decided that on reaching the estate, we would eat lunch and then head to the sanctuary to get the tickets.

Now about the estate, we stayed in a house which had an idyllic picturesque view of the mountains and the estate. I envy the family that lives in this house. They have two adorable dogs named Sheeba and Caesar whom i ran into only the next morning. Our host, Bindu made delicious food for all of us which seemed like a godsend for us hungry folks. She made yummy pulioghare and South Indian fare. Hats off to her cooking, I still salivate when reminded of her food and wish I were back to Coorg, if only to eat at her place once again.

Ashok Uncle gave us a team call to assemble and to head towards our destination. Kalyani Aunty suggested that it is better to take bath once we were back from the wild. So we caught the 2:30 bus and reached the sanctuary again. We were waiting with the other visitors to get a glimpse of the animals but this was possible only if we got the tickets. Our team leaders stood in the long queue and procured the tickets. Meanwhile other members started discovering the place by taking a stroll in the region. We were clicking pictures when all of a sudden we encountered a wild elephant which came towards us from the forest. This elephant was harmless and it was shackled but the people unconsciously tried to agitate it by getting into a panic. But the mahout soon came to its rescue and he took it back into the forest.

After all this hungama, we got our tickets. Kudos to the leaders who managed things for the entire group. We had 15 minutes to spare for the safari, and we loitered around the place. We had some granola bars to satiate our hunger with the excuse that we needed energy to click pictures. Our bus arrived and we found that the previous group who had gone for the trek were unable to spot any animal. But we followed Uncle’s tip of “jungle noise” and could spot many animals. Mu ha ha ha! (Evil Laugh!). Many animals were up and about and we were able to see quite a few of them. The animals that we saw included a lot of deer (their population is the most in Coorg), Bison, Samabhar deer, Malabar squirrel, Peacocks, Macaques especially the lion-faced ones, the tigers and also the wild boars. I clicked snaps of all of them in various stylish poses and prayed that they would never become extinct and be free happy wanderers as always. This safari went on for about 1 hour and we were back to our base camp at about 8.

Our stomach was grumbling again and we made Bindu Aunty cook dinner for us. We had a sumptuous dinner and lot of fun teasing Krupa about her encounter with two guys. We discussed how good she was at attracting the opposite sex. I agree we benefited from her charm with the TT examiner and the NGO guy. I liked the NGO guy and this madam went to the extent of taking down his email id for me which although very sweet at that point in time turned out to be a total disaster for her at the dining table. I related the entire incident and had a hearty laugh along with the others.

Then we had a campfire which proceeded as follows. We sat around the camp fire and began a conversation about life in general. But we soon started playing games which were good fun till the end, when our First Lady walked off with total disinterest with the way we were building a story about a red dressed lady (I’ve mentioned the red dress alone because this was the only sensible part of the story and the rest was nonsensical). In Kalyani Aunty’s words there was no action.

We got ready for the Jungle safari for the night. We were split into two groups and we went in to the wilderness of the jungle and travelled beyond the border of Karnataka and into Kerala to spot some animals with our flash lights. The trick behind spotting creatures in the night is to direct the torch on in to the forest, and if you see the reflection of the light from the creatures eyes then you have found an animal. This went on for about an hour when we were not able to find animals aside from the deer. As we were getting back to our base camp we were lucky enough to spot an elephant and a wild boar (Or atleast, in the dark, we believe that’s what we saw).

We got back to the house around 11:30 and went to sleep looking forward to the next day. Being a totally new experience, I enjoyed every single minute of it. I volunteered to wake up early so that all of us could get ready by 7:30 and reach Brahmaghiri on time. Thus Day 1 ended and we slept tired, but happy with the day’s proceedings and eager to see what awaited us on Day 2.

Next day, I woke up at 5:45 sharp and took bath. We got ready by 7:30, ate our breakfast and headed to Brahmagiri. As we entered this region it felt like we were in to a whole new part of the world. We had to cross a bridge to reach the falls and we were clicking snaps en route while Uncle went to fetch our guide for the rest of our trek. We decided to climb against the falls with Ezhumalai Anna’s help but the idea seemed to be in vain.

By then Uncle got us permission to trek through Brahmagiri Mountain and we started our endeavour to climb up the mountain. Before we started our trek Uncle gave us a few instructions which I will mention later. We followed him and the guide through the trek and that’s when I became full of admiration for Uncle. In the beginning, I was able to match the guides pace and was reasonably faster than the others. But after a while I started panting for breath and was hence a little behind than the others. On our way we saw trees and bushes felled by elephants and humongous amounts of its dung. We even took a break near a brook and washed our faces from its water. Then within a few minutes our gutsy Kalyani Aunty caught up to us and we were rather taken aback because inspite of an acute back pain she could reach the peak at the same time as us. She took some rest when we all continued the journey, but she still reached the grasslands just a little bit later than us.

Brahmagiri Mountain is a tropical forest and is called the Shola Mountains. The speciality of this mountain is, it has forest land in the beginning and as you go higher it develops in to grass lands. All of us started clicking pictures after reaching an altitude of 1154 meters. After this we went a bit further and then took a decision to walk back to the base. In about 4 hours we were done with the trek and back to the base. We all gulped cool drinks thirstily and were waiting for Kalyani Aunty to arrive. When she reached the base we thanked our guide and then we went back to the base camp, had our lunch and got back to Mysore city by evening.

We had dinner in some local restaurant near the station as our cab driver himself was a bit confused with Mysore city (we were travelling around one area for about an hour before we could reach the station). After savouring the dinner and reaching the station, we bid farewell to those of us who left at Mysore station. At the station we said good bye to Pratik, Bhavani and Bill as they had to board different trains or different compartments respectively.

Then we caught the train and reached Bangalore in a couple of hours and then had to switch coaches in the same train. It’s rather strange that we had to undergo this inspite of advance booking. Here I and Deepak were given a different compartment. We boarded the train and chit-chatted about our lives till late into the night. Then sleep over took us and we decided to take rest. Thus our journey ended exactly at 7:30 AM next day morning. Now we are back to our mundane life, with vettiness, office work and boredom.

Lessons learnt:
Jungle noise: You should never make a lot of noise while spotting animals. This was the reason why the other group couldn’t spot any. We on the other hand were trained by Ashok Uncle to keep our voices down to a murmur and thus we were able to see a lot of animals with the help of “jungle noise”.

Trekking tips:
• When you trek as a group always try and be in pairs.
• The person who has less stamina should set the pace for others when you go for a trek as a group.
• Drink a little water, gurgle and then swallow it. Do not gulp water at once.
• Trek light, do not carry a heavy bag.

Film Festival - part 1

I knew film festival was happening and I surely wouldn’t let go of this opportunity to hit Sathyam (heaven out here for all the movie lovers). For starters, this is a Women’s Film Festival (Men are allowed) by Inko Centre happening for the last one week and unfortunately today is the last day. Though I dint make it on all the days, I surely dint miss to catch up a few flicks here and there. My experience of the film festival was just splendid, met a few friends, got to speak on T.V and of course could hog and savour my favourite onion and paparika mixed pop corn.

Film makes me wonder, analyze and think. Taking it up as a profession surely makes me get goose bumps and what is more better than doing what you love the most. I always felt very happy for my low scores in my board exam which ushered me in to the media field rather than the humdrum life of engineering (I actually admire a few picked people who actually have taken it up due to sheer passion for their subject). I’m going to take my first step in to the world of cameras, movies and their history in exactly 3 months from now. Brings double the goose bumps from the one I got earlier. The next three years is a new phase in my life and I want to nurture each one of it with total care and passion. Ah, I’m speechless and mesmerized.

Now enough of my useless ranting and now I get back to some proper blogging about the main subject.

As I entered Sathyam, the usual hustle bustle of the place was just driving up my spirits and made me just flow through the crowd in to the unreal world. I bought my delegate pass (I’m a proud owner of it) and there I entered the multiplex with a reverent smile passing through security’s who always show a peculiar warmth which may be my illusion as I’m generally smitten by the place so I don’t much care to observe them intently. I was already late for the screening which had begun at 1’o clock and the time was 1:30. “Oh damn, I missed half of it, I’m not going to understand much, but it is okay let me just try,” I murmur confidently. Then when I enter there is this whole new universe, where people around me are humans who appreciate art, proudly I go and take a seat. A certain reverie surrounded me and I was lost in the documentary.

Some pleasures in life cannot be explained in a single blog, so now I decide there is a part-2 for this blog.

I know I’m late but Happy Women’s day to all the Women out there whom I respect with my whole heart.

Innocent encounter

Childhood memories are always the most enjoyed stages of each man. Each time you pull up a photo album and look through the pictures, it necessarily brings a wide smile upon your face. The blemish less life where one can just be one’s self and not care about the evil world around us is an achievement in itself. The bewildered look on people’s face with your loony acts now against the smiles on million faces with your gimmicks as a toddler is a much rejoiced moment. Will these days come back? No, but it definitely can be recollected with the help of photo albums and videos. Thanks to these medium that our childhood days are still preserved.

Yesterday I received an email from S and when I opened the mail, I went in to nostalgia. It was a set of pictures reminiscence of his child hood days. The pictures were beautifully taken bringing in the candid effect of each and every movement of his alive. The moment I saw them, I could definitely say there was life in the pictures and they brought in a new meaning to innocence. I loved all of them such beautifully taken pictures who would not fall in love. I started believing in passion now and it made me think even the worst moments can be captured splendidly with a tad of unconsciousness. Naturalness is the word of the moment!

This snap definitely reminds me of Anjali movie.

Look at the montai mandai!!! If the same pic. was taken now, people will think you are out of your mind. This is what i meant in my earlier paragraph, when you are a kid you can just get away doing anything.

Sibling love or their love for car?? This snap is just unbeatable. I really appreciate the photographer who has taken these snaps with such candor, hats off to him.
